X-光和皮肤 - X-rays and skin
Today was an important day for Min Yi; this morning she had an X-ray taken and later in the afternoon two dermatologists dropped by to have a look at her skin.
As for Min Yi, she was not happy at all today. She was out of traction this morning so we could check out her skin, got a quick bath (really liked it) and was very upset to be back in traction. She cried for a long time and was very angry. After a little while we discovered that one of the ropes that pull her legs was not in the right position, which probably added to her discomfort. After adjusting she was a bit better, but still not happy. She slept for most of the afternoon (exhausted from crying) and was slightly better afterwards.
The dermatologists came round and checked her skin. It had openend slightly in two spots and seemed to be getteing a bit wet. Whether this was "just a reaction" to the material on her skin, or an allergic reaction, they couldn't tell. Either way, they've recommended a different (milder) material and a cream, that I don't have any details on yet.
Speaking of which: I think the word X-光 in Chinese rocks!
Why? Well, it's based on an English word but not exactly a loan word and -this I like a lot- it is a combination of one letter of the Latin alphabet and one Chinese character. One word, two scripts (one country - two systems hehe). Of course, we've got words like these as well, but they're not very common and they often have alternative ways of writing them: γ ray is often written as gamma ray. I checked out this little Tamil dictionary I have at home and unfortunately the Tamil word for x-ray is written completely in Tamil letters. The search is on though...
After all this excitement, I was very disappointed to see that there's also an "official" way of writing X-ray in Chinese: 爱克斯光. The first three characters together sound like "x". So no one country two systems I suppose....
