What's going on in there

by Lise Eliot

A balanced book about the development of the young brain (and consequently, the mind). I like the fact that it provides a very "technical" look at development. In that sense I found it a relief, after all the rose-coloured parenting magazines that you receive without ever asking for. :-)

This book makes a difficult topic (neurosciences) very accessible, but does so in a thorough way. This is no 100 page "how to understand the brain and profit from it" type of book, so be ready to invest a bit of time reading it.

All in all, I would recommend the book. Just take chapter 17 (How to Raise a Smarter Child) with a grain of salt, just like the author does. Read the contents here.
